The GGF News 3/23/2012

This Sunday at GGF we will look back at some of the themes that we have covered concerning the Mystery of Suffering.  Check these out and consider what might stand out to you- and join us this Sunday.

How should we respond to suffering?
“Job fell on his face in worship” Job 1.20  Job worshiped in his grief.  He didn’t try to use worship to replace his suffering.  Sometime we feel that if we are going to honor God we can’t grieve our sufferings.  Job shows us that isn’t true.

Would you rather have Answers or God? This is what the book of Job is about.   Retribution Theology says you can have both.  Job’s 4 friends said the same thing.  Job was not willing to trade the God he loved for answers to his suffering.

What  does Karma, Retribution/Pay back Theology and the Merit System all provide.  A God you can’t love. All these give us a God who is inconsistent, reckless, and irresponsible.  We can’t love God if we are insecure about how He feels towards us.

Does Suffering sometimes come with benefits?  Can Suffering sometimes help us overcome fear?  Can Suffering sometimes increase our sense of gratitude and enjoyment?  Can Suffering sometimes cause us to feel closer to God?

If you would like to talk further about any of these thoughts- I would love to get together with you.
